Dispatch Center

Canton Public Safety's dispatch/communications center receives all emergency and non-emergency phone calls for police and fire service from the public. The center is staffed by Public Safety Service Officers (PSSOs) who perform the functions of call-takers and radio dispatchers. PSSOs also perform the service of jail attendants, monitoring prisoners being held in Canton's lock-up. The department recently upgraded to a state-wide 800 mHz radio system which provided compliance with the state's new narrow-banding requirements, as well as provided the capability of radio interoperability within the state.
